Prioritising Health in Black Heritage Hair Care
In the UK, there has been growing concern about the safety and regulation of Black hair care products. However research specific to the UK market is less extensive compared to the U.S which is why being involved and completing the survey attending our events is important for our first stage as a commnity for gathering evidence for the research for the UK. This is our first step as towards conducting much-needed UK-based research. Together, we can make meaningful change in product safety and health outcomes.
Product Safety Concerns: Studies have shown that some products specifically targeted at Black heritage consumers, such as relaxers, hair oils, leave-in conditioners, and hair treatments contain harmful ingredients, including endocrine disruptors linked to health issues like fibroids and even cancer.
TRIYBEs Black Hair Care research initiative co-designs and collaborates with a team of expert researchers, Dr. Tamanda Walker and Symiah Barnett, a PhD Doctoral Researcher, alongside the support of Dr. Alice Mpofu-Coles and Associate Professor Professor Sally Lloyd-Evans and YOU the Community. This partnership involves the University of Reading and the British Science Association as part a Research Pilot.
